A Simple Digital Marketing Strategy for Small Businesses

Many small business owners know they should be 'doing digital marketing', but nobody tells them where to start. The good news: a focused plan beats a big budget. Here is the simple framework we use with our clients.
1. Know exactly who you are selling to
Write down who your best customers are — their age, location, what problem you solve for them and where they spend time online. Every post, ad and web page should speak to this person.
2. Fix your foundations first
Before spending on ads, make sure your website loads fast on mobile, your Google Business Profile is complete, and people can contact you in one tap (phone, WhatsApp or a short form). Ads that send people to a weak website waste money.
3. Pick two channels, not ten
It is better to be excellent on two platforms than average on ten. For most local businesses that means Google (search + Maps) and one social platform such as Instagram or Facebook.
4. Create helpful content on a schedule
Answer the questions your customers ask you every day. Short videos, before-and-after photos, tips and customer stories build trust far better than constant sales posts.
5. Measure what matters
Track enquiries, calls and sales — not just likes. Review your numbers every month, keep what works and drop what doesn't.
